  35. 1) Following a warm and neighborly greeting, it was decided that the
  36. minutes of September 10 and 14 are to be edited and resubmitted to IESG
  37. for review.

  40. 2) TCP/IP Header Compression: Dave Borman reported that he had received
  41. responses to his queries, and that he is reviewing them.
  42.

  44. 3) SNMP over OSI, SNMP over Appletalk and SNMP over IPX were approved
  45. for recommendation to the IAB as proposed standards.

  47. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- Send recommendation to the IAB to publish the SNMP
  48. over OSI, SNMP over Appletalk and SNMP over IPX documents as Proposed
  49. Standards.

  52. 4. The BGP default route document has been edited, submitted and
  53. announced as an Internet Draft, and is ready to move forward.

  55. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- Send a LAST CALL for BGP default Route to the ietf
  56. announcement list.

  59. 5. IDENT
  60.  
  61. Some edits are being made to the document. One the new version is
  62. received, a second last call will be issued. Two weeks following that,
  63. it will be recommended to the IAB that IDENT be accepted as a Proposed
  64. Standard.
  65.  
  66. Steve Crocker to provide text for minutes of September 10 meeting.

  68. The IDENT MIB is ready to go forward.

  70. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- After the IDENT protocol is approved by the IESG,
  71. send a recommendation to the IAB that the IDENT MIB be accepted as a
  72. Proposed Standard.

  74. 6. There was an extended discussion on the advisability and
  75. desirability of moderating the IETF discussion list. Much of the
  76. discussion focused on the mechanics of moderating the list, and whether
  77. or not individual should be prevented from sending mail to the
  78. discussion list. It was generally accepted that whatever is done, it
  79. must be announced prior to implementation.

  81. ACTION: Coya/Vaudreuil -- Look into mechanisms to intecept messages
  82. before they go to the list. General switch that can quickly be turned
  83. on.

  85. 7. The IESG discussed Sender-Initiated File Transfer (SIFT), a document
  86. submitted as an Informational RFC. The need for such a facility was
  87. discussed, and it was decided to initiate discussions with the author.
  88.  
  89. ACTION: Hobby -- Send a note to the author of the SIFT protocol.
  90. Determine what features are missing from FTP that SIFT handles, and
  91. whether FTP be enhanced to meet the community needs.
  92.  
  93. 8. Russ Hobby mentioned in passing that he was married over the
  94. weekend. Congratulations Russ!
  95.  
  96. 9. The Reynolds/Hobby "Package" of an architeture and four WGs was
  97. approved.  In addition to sending the announcement of the WGs to the
  98. ietf, both RIPE and RARE should be copied, espeically since the package
  99. contains a cohesive architecture.

  101. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- Send out the entire Information architecture
  102. package to the ietf. Copy RIPE and RARE, and include statement which
  103. highlights existance of architecture.
  104.  
  105. 10.  It was stated that Remote Conferencing (remconf) was NOT to become
  106. a working group. The members of the BOF have been focusing in writing
  107. an architectural document, and are expected to submit it as an
  108. Internet-Draft. It is anticipated that, as a result of the
  109. architecture, a number of working groups will be formed to work on the
  110. items identified within the architecture.

  112. 11. There was continued discussion on the subject of improving the
  113. quality of work performed by the WG/IESG. Briefly discussed was whether
  114. the Secretariat tracking information should be included in the
  115. recommendation to the IAB, which lead into a discussion on the quality
  116. of the WG data maintained, specifically noting the charters and
  117. milestones and their relation to reality. There was not enough time to
  118. sufficiently review Phill's message to the POISED WG on Quality
  119. Control, and this discussion will continue at the next IESG
  120. teleconference.

  122. A concern of "not the whole story provided" was raised to the
  123. suggestion that administrative data be included in the IAB
  124. Recommendation.  Consensus seemed to indicate a need for tracking each
  125. and every step (chronological audit trail) of an item as it goes
  126. through the IESG, resulting in a stand-alone historical package at
  127. completion of effort.

  132. what needs to be done to establish a protocol standards track audit
  133. trail.
